What to actually study from.
A curated list, not an exhaustive one — every resource here is one that comes up consistently, independently, across toppers, teachers, and years of JEE preparation advice. Free options are included wherever genuinely good ones exist.
NCERT textbooks
Free, official, and the single most-recommended resource across every source — for Chemistry especially, a large share of theory questions (particularly Inorganic) come directly or almost directly from NCERT's own wording. For Physics and Maths, NCERT is the essential foundation, even though most students need to go beyond it for JEE-level problem difficulty.

Conceptual depth combined with heavy mathematical application — the common mistake is watching lectures without immediately solving numericals.
-
Concepts of Physics — H.C. Verma (Vol. 1 & 2)
Foundation
The most consistently recommended Physics book across every source — clear explanations, genuinely JEE-appropriate difficulty.
-
Understanding Physics — D.C. Pandey (series)
Foundation
Topic-wise, widely used alongside H.C. Verma for additional practice problems.
-
Problems in General Physics — I.E. Irodov
JEE Advanced level
Genuinely difficult — start this only once your fundamentals are solid, not as a first book.
The most consistently recommended free YouTube channel for JEE Physics across every source checked — full syllabus coverage, beginner-friendly explanations.
Chemistry
Split your approach by the three sub-areas — Physical, Organic, and Inorganic behave quite differently as subjects.
-
Physical Chemistry — P. Bahadur
Foundation
Widely regarded as the strongest option for numerical problem-solving practice in Physical Chemistry.
-
Concise Inorganic Chemistry — J.D. Lee
Foundation
A classic reference — though for JEE specifically, NCERT itself already covers most of what's actually tested here.
-
Advanced Problems in Organic Chemistry — M.S. Chauhan
JEE Advanced level
Considered the gold standard for Organic Chemistry practice at JEE Advanced difficulty.
Both come up repeatedly for comprehensive, free Organic/Inorganic/Physical coverage — try a lecture from each and stick with whichever teaching style clicks.
Mathematics
NCERT alone is explicitly described as insufficient for JEE-level Maths, more so than for the other two subjects — plan to move beyond it earlier.
-
Cengage Mathematics — G. Tewani (series)
Foundation
Comprehensive, chapter-wise, particularly strong for vectors and 3D geometry — one of the most consistently recommended Maths series overall.
-
Objective Mathematics — R.D. Sharma
Foundation
Good for practice volume and reinforcing concepts once the basics are in place.
-
Plane Trigonometry — S.L. Loney
JEE Advanced level
An older classic, still specifically recommended for Trigonometry and Coordinate Geometry depth.
The name that comes up most consistently for free JEE Maths content, particularly well-regarded for rigorous treatment of Calculus and Algebra.
Resources in Tamil and Tanglish
Concepts often land better in your own language before you translate that understanding into English for the exam itself. These are genuinely worth knowing about — clearly labeled by what they actually are, so you know what you're getting.
TN Government Textbooks (Samacheer Kalvi) Official — Govt. of TN
This is your single most important Tamil-language resource if you're doing TNEA — your entire cutoff comes directly from these exact Class 11 & 12 textbooks, in both Tamil and English medium, published by the Tamil Nadu Text Book and Educational Services Corporation.
Get official Samacheer Kalvi textbooks (free)Padasalai.net Community resource
A long-running, widely-used Tamil Nadu teacher-and-student community site — extensive Tamil-medium study materials, model question papers, and unit tests for Class 12 Physics, Chemistry, and Maths. Not an official government site, but genuinely established and heavily used across Tamil Nadu schools.
Vedantu Master Tamil YouTube
A dedicated Tamil-language channel from Vedantu (an established ed-tech company), explicitly built for Tamil-speaking students preparing for both Boards and JEE — including foundation content for Class 9 & 10 students starting early.
Chemistry in Tamil YouTube
A channel dedicated specifically to explaining Chemistry concepts in Tamil — useful as a focused supplement if Chemistry specifically is where the language gap is hardest.
One piece of advice worth repeating
Nearly every source consulted for this page independently warned against the same mistake: collecting too many books. Pick one foundation book per subject, finish it properly — solved examples included, not skipped — before adding a second. A thin stack you actually complete beats a thick one you don't.
