Financial Aid Scholarships

Real scholarships, real official portals.

Every scheme below links directly to its official government portal, not a third-party aggregator. Engineering costs real money — these are legitimate ways to reduce that burden, verified against official sources.

Honest scope: Amounts, deadlines, and eligibility criteria change every academic year — everything here was checked against official government sources, but always confirm current figures on the actual portal before relying on them. This is not the complete list of every scholarship that exists; it's a curated starting point covering the schemes most relevant to JEE, TNEA, DASA, and CSAB Special applicants.
Start here — Central Government

National Scholarship Portal (NSP)

The single official portal for almost every central government scholarship — Ministry of Education, AICTE, Ministry of Social Justice, Ministry of Minority Affairs, and more all run through it.

  • First step: get your OTR (One Time Registration) using Aadhaar — this covers your entire academic career, not just one year.
  • You can apply for one merit-based scholarship plus one or more welfare-based (category/disability) scholarships in the same year — not multiple merit-based ones.
  • Portal typically opens around June and closes around late October each cycle — but confirm exact dates on the portal, since they shift year to year.

  • Application window typically runs June to October, with results announced December–January, and disbursal via Direct Benefit Transfer January–March.

First Graduate Scholarship

For first-generation graduates admitted through TNEA Government Quota — if you're the first in your immediate family to pursue higher education, you likely already have the First Generation Graduate Certificate for this from your TNEA documents.

Pudhumai Penn Scheme

For girl students continuing into higher education after Class 12, run by the Tamil Nadu government to specifically encourage women into college.

Tamil Pudhalvan Scheme

The male-student counterpart to Pudhumai Penn, supporting boys entering higher education in Tamil Nadu.

Perarignar Anna Memorial Award

A merit-based award from the Department of Backward Classes and Most Backward Classes Welfare — check current eligibility on the TNSSP portal, since criteria are department-set and can change.

Before you apply

  1. Get your NSP One Time Registration (OTR) early — it needs Aadhaar-linked mobile verification, which can take a day or two if anything doesn't match.
  2. Keep the same documents ready as your admission checklist: income certificate, community/nativity certificate (if applicable), Aadhaar, bank passbook, and latest mark sheet.
  3. Make sure your bank account is Aadhaar-seeded (linked for direct benefit transfer) — scholarship money is paid directly to your account, and an unseeded account is the most common reason for payment delays.
  4. You can generally hold one merit-based scholarship plus multiple welfare-based ones at the same time — but never assume; check each scheme's own rules on double benefits.
